So many of us like the idea of making bread at home, but give up after the first disaster! Learn – or refresh your memory – to make consistently successful bread. On this foundation, learn how to incorporate other flavours and shapes.
Our bakery courses share simple objectives:
- Enhance your understanding of ingredients and processes
- Expose you to the great traditions of breadmaking
- Give you confidence to be creative and bold in your kitchen
- Opportunities to ask questions . . . and receive answers!
The structure of the day:
- Coffee, introductions and housekeeping information
- Demystifying flours, yeasts and salts
- Preparing doughs and other ingredients for
Your first loaf Olive bread Sun-dried tomato rolls Spiced bread Fougasse
- Demonstration of shaping and glazing techniques
- Lunch- suitable for vegetarians and vegans (approximately 12.15pm)
- Shape your doughs and prepare them for the oven
- Question Time, with time to review recipes and discuss books
- Bake your breads! (approximately 3.15pm)
Aprons are available, but if you want to bring your own, please do. Feel free to take notes and/or photographs during the day. Our bakery is fully wheelchair-accessible.

Terms & Conditions for Events at Gerry’s
1. We are unable to offer places to anyone under the age of 18.
2. You are obliged to notify us of any illness or communicable disease. If you have diarrhoea or vomiting on the day of the course, you will not be allowed entry.
3. Cancellations will be accepted up to one calendar month before the date of a course. Refunds are conditional on the place(s) being filled by someone else.
4. In the unlikely event of our bakery not being available due to major damage to the building, a full refund will be given.
